Kansas City Team Selected for New Professional Bull Riders League

Kansas City, Mo. (March 18, 2022) – The Kansas City Outlaws are riding into town as the city’s hometown team in the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Team Series, a new elite league featuring the world’s top bull riders competing in a new format beginning in July 2022.

The KC Outlaws will be based at T-Mobile Center. Team owners include Phil Pulley, an entrepreneur and founder of Bad Boy Mowers, a loyal partner of PBR, as well as owner of the popular snack brand, Outlaw Snax. He is joined on the ownership team by longtime business partner Lennie Foree.

“PBR is an exciting, entertaining, edge-of-your-seat sports experience, wrapped in core American values,” Pulley said. “PBR has visited Kansas City 20 times over the years, building a fan base for an authentic, family-friendly sport everyone can relate to. Now with bull riders joining a team right here in Kansas City, we believe the Outlaws can help take this great American sport to new heights. We are proud to be a founding team of a league with explosive growth potential.”

The Kansas City Outlaws have selected J.W. Hart as their first head coach. Hart brings a legacy of winning to Kansas City. Nicknamed “The Ironman Man,” Hart competed in a then-record 197 consecutive events, beginning with his first PBR event in 1994 and continuing until 2003.

Hart, who is a member of the PBR Ring of Honor member, the sport’s most prestigious recognition, brings star power and expertise to the Outlaws, particularly as a top bucking bull stock contractor with deep knowledge of the sport’s world-class bovine athletes that are half of every ride score. Hart will lead the Outlaws in the first draft of the Team Series on May 24 when the eight teams will select their rosters.

“A team series has been talked about and dreamed about for so many years; to see it finally come to fruition is very exciting,” Hart said. “In past years, I have been a part of coaching winning teams with the PBR World Cup and PBR Global Cup. I can't wait for this new league to begin our games. It is going to be a great new era in bull riding.”

The league will launch with eight founding teams, each scheduled to host event homestands in their respective city. PBR’s new team-format league is one of the most exciting developments in pro sports. For the first time in history, the world’s best riders will be competing together on teams for a team world championship to be decided at an annual season-ending Team Finals in Las Vegas.

Each of the eight teams will host an annual bull riding and western lifestyle event. The festivities and extreme athletic competition come to Kansas City from August 5-7, 2022, at T-Mobile Center. The three-day event will showcase traditional eight-second bull rides structured in a tournament-style format with all teams competing in head-to-head matchups against a different opponent each day.
