T-Mobile Center Announces Grand Opening Week Festivities

Kansas City, MO (October 5, 2007) - T-Mobile Center, in partnership with the City of Kansas City and National Association of Basketball Coaches, today announced festivities to celebrate T-Mobile Center’s grand opening week October 10-13, 2007. The celebration will begin with a ceremonial ribbon cutting scheduled for Oct. 10 at 10:10 a.m.

"Today is the result of hard work from many individuals throughout the past two-plus years," said Brenda Tinnen T-Mobile Center General Manager. "T-Mobile Center will become a showcase for the region and is a state-of-the-art reflection of the spirit of Kansas City."

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will feature musical delights from the Kansas City Symphony. Doors open to the general public immediately following the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 10 and will be open through 10:10 p.m. Guests will proceed to T-Mobile Center’s Box Office to obtain tickets for entry to the Open House. T-Mobile Center will be accepting a $5 suggested charitable donation to the NABC Foundation at the discretion of each guest. Visitors will receive a T-Mobile Center information guide featuring arena amenities on both the Main and Upper Concourses and a parking map. T-Mobile Center staff will be available to answer questions.

Guests are encouraged to attend the open house as throughout the day, T-Mobile Center operations will change the arena floor from hockey to basketball to concert. In addition, "The Moons" public art by artist Chris Doyle will be dedicated at 6 p.m. near the south end of T-Mobile Center Box Office near 14th and Grand Boulevard.

"Downtown’s revival has been going on for several years," said Mayor Mark Funkhouser. "It has made incremental steps through the energy of its nearest neighborhoods, the growth of its residential market and the decisions of both large and small businesses to move to or remain at the center of our metropolitan area. On Wednesday, we will take a big leap as we open this world-class arena to the public. The synergy between T-Mobile Center and the Power and Light District will again give people a reason to come downtown and spend some time."

On Friday, Oct. 12, T-Mobile Center Opening Week festivities continue with the running of the American Royal Cattle Drive. The Cattle Drive begins at noon at 10th and Grand and ends at near 14th and Grand. Concessions will be available on the Grand Boulevard Plaza and the public is encouraged to a special performance by Jessica Andrews. Jessica Andrews launched her career with her 1999 and has won the Academy Of Country Music’s Top New Female Vocalist award. Andrews has scored a series of memorable hits including the #1 country smash "Who I Am," and shared stages with the likes of Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Trisha Yearwood.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, doors for the Elton John show will open two hours prior to the concert at 6 p.m. Elton John concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early and allow time for parking. A brief fireworks show will immediately follow the conclusion of the Elton John concert.

In addition to the Elton John grand opening concert on October 13, T-Mobile Center has announces events and performances by WWE SMACKDOWN and ECW (October 23), Rascal Flatts (October 25), Van Halen featuring Kymani Marley(October 26), So You Think You Can Dance (October 27), Garth Brooks (November 14), CBE Classic (November 19-20), Blue Man Group (November 23), Disney’s High School Musical: The Ice Tour! (November 30-December 2), Hannah Montana (December 3), Billy Joel (December 6), Trans-Siberian Orchestra (December 8); Ohio University vs. University of Kansas (December 15), Florida A & M vs. Kansas State University (December 17), Harlem Globetrotters (January 3-6), AVP-Hot Winter Nights Tour (January 12) and Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship (March 13-16).
