T-Mobile Center Celebrates Third Anniversary By Earning Spot as America's Second Busiest Arena

T-Mobile Center, Kansas City’s award winning arena, celebrates its third anniversary by continuing to set attendance records and exceed financial goals. According to Pollstar Magazine’s 2010 3rd Quarter Report, T-Mobile Center has been recognized as America’s second busiest arena and No. 7 among Worldwide Venues. The second spot among arenas in the United States is T-Mobile Center’s highest ranking since opening on Oct. 10, 2007.

T-Mobile Center has exceeded both attendance and fiscal projections for the most recently audited fiscal year that ended on July 31, 2010. To date in 2010, T-Mobile Center has hosted 8 of the top 10 Worldwide tours including Paul McCartney’s Up and Coming Tour, Elton John and Billy Joel: Face to Face, Eric Clapton, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and An Evening with James Taylor and Carole King.

“As a result of T-Mobile Center’s great success in FY09-10, we have exceeded our financial projections allowing AEG to deliver $2.1 million, representing an increase of over 15% from last year’s payment, to the City of Kansas City, Mo., through a profit-sharing provision in the management agreement,” confirmed Timothy J. Leiweke, President and CEO of AEG. “We couldn’t be more proud of our successful partnership with the City of Kansas City and the world-class reputation that T-Mobile Center has come to stand for.”

Pollstar utilizes an extensive database to collect box office reports from the world’s top-level artists, promoters and venues during the 2010 calendar year. The result is a series of eagerly anticipated rankings and industry outlook that are included in the magazine’s popular 3rd Quarter issue.

“As T-Mobile Center celebrates its third anniversary, AEG remains committed to exceeding the expectations of our guests, artists, managers and agents,” said Brenda Tinnen, AEG Kansas City general manager and senior vice president. “We are humbled and fortunate that Kansas City’s appetite and enthusiasm for live entertainment transcends all music genres and embodies diverse expressions of live entertainment.”

Opened on Oct. 10, 2007, T-Mobile Center’s continued success garnered its third consecutive nomination as ‘Arena of the Year’ from both Pollstar Magazine and the Academy of Country Music. Rankings are based on tickets sold for live entertainment performances between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2010.
