T-Mobile Center Earns No. 9 Ranking Among World’s Top Arenas

Top 3 in United States

In Pollstar Magazine’s 3rd Quarter Report, T-Mobile Center was recognized as #9 among all worldwide arenas. The current issue of the leading industry publication hits newsstands this week and also indicated that T-Mobile Center’s 2009 attendance to date firmly lists Kansas City’s vibrant downtown arena as No. 3 among concert venues in the United States.

“Kansas City’s appetite for entertainment is undeniable as evidenced by being ranked #9 among the world’s leading arenas,” said Brenda Tinnen, T-Mobile Center/AEG Kansas City general manager and senior vice president. “As we celebrate our second anniversary, T-Mobile Center strives to continue that momentum so that Kansas City will be positively positioned to attract future events.”

T-Mobile Center’s success in FY08-09 garnered its 2nd annual Arena of the Year Nomination and resulted in unanticipated revenue of more than $1.8 million for the City of Kansas City through a provision in AEG’s management agreement.

In 2009, T-Mobile Center has hosted dozens of sell-out concerts including Celine Dion, AC/DC, The Eagles, Keith Urban and Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Fleetwood Mac and Britney Spears. In addition, T-Mobile Center also hosted sold-out, nationally televised events including first- and second- rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships, PBR: Professional Bull Riders and WWE Raw and SMACKdown.

Pollstar maintains an extensive database and collects box office reports from nearly 100 percent of the world’s top-level artists, promoters and venues. Rankings are based on tickets sold for live entertainment performances between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2009.
