Street League Skateboarding Stops at T-Mobile Center in May

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 15, 2012) – The world's premier professional skateboarding series, Street League Skateboarding, announced today the 2012 schedule. This summer, the league will feature a four-stop nationwide tour including the first stop at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City on May 18-19. As the only tour with street skating’s biggest stars, the event has the largest purse and highest stakes in all of competitive skateboarding with 24 of the best professional skateboarders in the world competing for more than $1.6MM in prize money and the title as Street League Champion.

Street League has had astounding growth since its launch. The 2011 season was the highest attended and viewed contest series in skateboarding history with nearly 50,000 fans in attendance and over 1.4 billion global impressions. Last year's champion and Kansas City native, Sean Malto, emerged above the world’s best to walk away with the Championship, and in the process denied teen phenomenon Nyjah Huston a first-ever season sweep. Huston enjoyed an historical year winning the first three events, giving the 2010 League Champion an unprecedented four career Street League victories. Along with Malto and Huston, the heavy hitting roster of Street League remains stronger than ever with stars like Chris Cole, Paul Rodriguez, Ryan Sheckler, Chaz Ortiz, and Torey Pudwill ready to stake their claim to the 2012 Championship.

“Our goal is to continue to refine the series and make it better year-after-year,” said Street League creator, Rob Dyrdek. “Beyond the evolution of our courses, format, and qualification process, 2012 will mark significant expansions in Street League’s licensed products, permanent plaza efforts, and international presence as we solidify our position as the definitive professional skateboarding property.”

This year, the one-of-a-kind skate plazas built in each arena will expand the number of features in its design, to allow for full timed-runs on every obstacle of the course for the Line Section. The Tech Section will highlight the single best trick out of five attempts. Concluding each event, the reformatted Big Section will count the top four scores of six trick attempts. This will allow the Street League pros to push the boundaries of competitive skateboarding even further while maintaining the easy-to-follow format for which Street League is known.
